How to use the forum and what we expect from members.

Getting started

  • Create an account

    Use Register, confirm your email if prompted, then sign in.

  • Start a thread

    Open a forum (category), click New topic, or use the button in the header. You will see recent threads in that forum while you write.

  • Reply

    Open any thread. Read the posts above, then use Post reply at the bottom.

Community guidelines

  • Be respectful — no harassment, hate, or personal attacks.
  • Post in the right forum; use clear titles so others can help.
  • No spam, scams, or off-topic advertising.
  • Share knowledge; cite sources when giving critical care advice.

Account & profile

Update your public profile under Profile. Email and session options are under Settings.

Badges & awards

Badges appear on your profile and next to your name in threads. Some are assigned by the team; many unlock automatically from your activity and reputation.

Activity tier

If you do not yet qualify for the milestone awards below, your activity tier reflects how many posts you have made. The labels look like this on profiles:

Thresholds: Beginner (under 10 posts), Enthusiast (10–49), Expert (50–199), Master (200 or more).

Staff roles

These roles and the supporter recognition use the same styling you see next to names in threads:

Administrator, Moderator, and Staff badges are assigned by the site. Team members also receive Forum Supporter recognition alongside their role.

OG Founder

This award is given to the first 50 members who make their first forum post (a new thread or a reply). It is permanent and cannot be self-awarded.

Milestone awards (automatic)

These unlock when your profile stats reach the thresholds. We use your message count (threads plus replies you posted), reaction score (sum of reaction-type points on reactions other people left on your threads and replies), and points. Points are simply message count + reaction score — a single activity number for milestones (not a separate currency). Where it says “or”, meeting either condition is enough.

  • At least 10 messages, or reaction score of at least 10.

  • At least 50 messages, or at least 100 points.

  • Reaction score at least 25, or at least 250 points.

  • Member for at least 365 days (from your join date).

  • Reaction score of at least 100.

  • At least 500 points.

Other awards

The team can attach extra awards to accounts (for example community competitions or special thanks). Those appear with your other badges when they are active.

Appeals & moderation

If you received a sanction you believe was a mistake, use the appeal form while signed in. Staff review appeals in order; include relevant context and remain respectful.
